NHS Liverpool Clinical Commissioning Group 5 rights Need help Communicating? When caring for patients, the NHS must follow these 5 steps if you have a communication need. For Example: BSL Interpreter, Spoken Language or Braille. These 5 steps are: 1 - Check. Check if you have any communication needs. 2 - Record. Record those needs on your health records. 3 - Ensure. Ensure those needs are easy to see on your records. 4 - Share. Share those needs with other health services, if you are being referred. For example - Physiotherapy, X-ray, Blood test. 5 - Meet needs. Make sure those needs are met as part of ALL your care. If your needs are not met, you have the right to make a complaint.
