FAQ82 - AMON AMARTH, JOHN PETRUCCI TONES, ORANGE AMPS, EARLY PANTERA & THALL

82.
Finally, I've been waiting for 82, because I knew 82 would be the special FAQ.
So Ola, why is it so special?
Well, it's the first time I'm trying out a different microphone technique for my FAQ videos.
I'm kind of sick and tired of how these Lavalier microphone sounds and...
It just picks up a random bunch of shit in the background that I don't like, so...
I'm trying out this method, where I have... you know, this penis aimed against my mouth.
So, hopefully this microphone will help me to create some more ASMR.
So, let's try this. How does this sound?
If I come closer...
So, this past week was the release week of my album.
Everyone, thank you so much for supporting, listening to the album...
It's streamable all over the place: Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play...
What else are streaming shit? I have no idea.
It's probably already pirated and up on Russian websites somewhere
And... yeah, but I'm really happy with the outcome so far
And if you haven't already, go check it out.
Master of the Universe, thank you so much, I really appreciate it.
And another thing before we start maybe... or maybe not.
Unplugging the cable...
Look at that, that's our new baritone guitar.
It's the A2.6 FBB
Flame Black Baritone, just look at that sick-ass finish.
Song of the day, by Ola Englund.
But no, that's not all.
Because Ola Englund the Swede also just released...
the first Solar Guitars' 8 string and... it's an 8 string.
A1.8 thank you so much for that little demo.
And the funny thing about this is that this guitar has been standing there since January.
And you guys were like 'Ola, when is there gonna be an 8 string Solar guitar?'
It's been here since January.
trOla.
First question, shit.
Matt R: "What are your thoughts on 80s Pantera?
"You speak highly of 90s Pantera but have never heard you speak pre 90s. Talk to me. -Matt"
I actually think I've answered this question before, but...
Seeing how I have so many new subscribers...
I have listened to the 80s Pantera albums and...
I think it was Projects in the Jungle that I owned...
And there's actually a really good song on there called 'Ride My Rocket'.
It's actually, just give it a listen, it's a good song. But yeah...
The 80s Pantera is not what I consider being my Pantera.
So I haven't really paid that much attention to those earlier albums the same.
They're meant to p-
They're meant to pee.
Oh, I'm peeing all over...
They're meant to be the 90s Pantera, okay? And nothing else.
So, I don't really consider the 80s albums to be significant in any sense.
So there you go. Great first question.
Hayden Naughton: "What's the loudest burp you've clocked on your dB meter behind you?"
Can you see it?
Okay, let's give it a shot.
Okay, that was lame.
I promise my burping is not up to par today.
Okay, it's coming.
Okay, I'm gonna get it. I just have to wait, let's just take the next question first.
Professor Chaos: "Will you be playing Sekiro Shadows Die Twice?"
Yes, I'm just not sure which platform I will get it for.
Will I get it for pc or will I get it for Playstation?
I just don't know.
Utopianarchy: "Hi Ola, Master of the Universe is wonderful, mate!"
"Question: what's your thought about the Rockerverb?
"And about Orange Amps in general? You're amazing, cheers."
Okay, Orange Amps is one of those brands that I like, but I haven't really...
...played them that much.
I've played the Rockerverb and...
I remember it being... you know, they have their own sound, which I really dig.
And it's just like... I've never really had...
the opportunity to play a lot of them.
I don't know why.
But maybe Orange should contact me and ask me to demo a bunch of shit.
Yes, that's a great idea.
Is that burp coming soon or not?
No, that's not it.
LakicGuitar: "Hey Ola, are Solar guitars still being inspected by you personally?
"Also, when will the single cut be released?"
Not all of them.
Right now we kind of take turns on going to Indonesia
and right now my colleague Xavier is doing most of the QC.
But I'm...
We're getting there.
The last time I was there was in December
and I'm not sure when I'm going there next time.
But Xavier is way pickier than me, so I think it's just better if he just goes there every time.
Also, when will the single cut be released?
This year.
Gunnar Norgren
"Tja Ola, fix your fucking headrest, my OCD is going nuts."
There you go.
Rino Bortone
"Hey Ola, for the next FAQ, may you play beas-
"By Silent Screaming for the riff of the day?
"Master of the Universe is mind-blowing. Cheers."
I didn't see what it was.
But I have to stop.
God damn it Ola. Ugh, so fucking disgusting.
All the female subscribers are gonna leave
I'm sorry, shit.
By Silent Screaming
How did that riff go?
Okay, I remember now.
This guitar is in drop C by the way, so D standard with a dropped C.
So there you go, riff of the day.
Ironkabe_04: "Favourite Pantera album?
"And what are your thoughts on Dimebag singature wah pedal? Love your solo album."
Okay, picking a Pantera album is really really hard for me.
And... I know I got a lot fo reactions in the latest FAQ where I said that...
Cowboys From Hell, Vulgar and Far Beyond Driven, Great Southern Trendkill are my favourite Pantera albums
and not mentioning Reinventing The Steel
I like Reinventing The Steel, but...
the other 4 albums are just way more important to me.
In some way you can hear that there were some problems in the band on that album
It just didn't sound right.
And obviously Phil and the guys were at the best with eachother at that time.
So I don't know, you can just hear it on the album and it's...
Yeah, I just prefer the other 4 a lot more than that and...
The signature Dimebag wah pedal... I don't think I've tried it, so I do not know.
"Love your solo album" Thank you so much, Ironkabe.
Marcelo Abadie: "Hi Ola, I love your... job."
Thank you.
"... my friend. What do you think of John Petrucci's tone evolution until Distance Over Time? Saludo."
Okay, so...
I personally prefer...
the early John Petrucci tones.
that he got with the Ibanez JPM and Triaxis and Mark II C+ amplifiers.
There's just something about... you know Images And Words and Awake...
that's just like... it sounds so incredibly good.
And also on the Liquid Tension albums he sounds...
97? Is that possible? Yes it is, Ola Englund.
But with that said, I must say his rhythm tone on the latest album sounds absolutely kickass.
But my personal favourite tone by John Petrucci was...
Awake I think and... Images And Words probably.
Maybe it's just nostalgia, I don't know.
thehoppo: "Will try this question again...
"Olaer, what would be your Ultimate Metal super group?
"Forget genres, let's just say blanket metal any era.
"You are allowed 1 front man, 2 guitarists (rhythm and lead), a bassist and a drummer
"Keyboardist, if you wanna get progressive.
"Cheers and YolOla."
Okay, I'm probably gonna disappoint people, but...
You know, if I would create another band, it would probably be a metal band
because I like metal so much.
So, people would probably expect me to make that grunge band, or you know that...
progressive jazz band, but no.
You know, there's just the energy of metal that makes me happy
so I would probably form another metal band.
Now, what members would I have?
I would still probably go for having Chris Cornell on vocals
Dimebag on guitar obviously
And... who else is not dead? 'Cause all those people are dead.
Maybe the drummer from Sepultura.
Whatshisface...
I forgot about it. It's the guy... in Sepultura.
Bass player is hard... maybe I would go for... I want a rocking bass player, you know?
With a guitar pick and all, maybe Rex Brown.
Oh Ola, so boring, picking all the Pantera members.
But maybe Alex Webster for some of that fingering.
You know... the ladies like the fingering.
Rhythm guitar player... maybe I would pick Eric Peterson of Testament.
And then there wouldn't be a spot left over for me, so I'll be the manager.
Which is okay, which is okay. I can be the manager of that band.
I'll call the band like 'Bag of Dicks'.
It's a great band name... there's probably already a band called Bag of Dicks out there.
Jean Caspar: "Hey Ola, what do you think about Amon Amarth's new single Raven's Flight?
"Great job on the Master of the Universe album!"
Ola reacts to Amon Amarth. I haven't heard the song, let's listen to it.
I must say the name of the song is a little bit lame.
Raven's Flight?
But I guess he's talking about... you know, the Odin raven.
Oh, there's an intro going on.
Or did they?
Shit in my face. Oh.
Oh, that's the panned guitar.
Yes
Yes
Yes
Yes
Yes
Yeah, I think this sounds killer.
The only thing I think about Amon Amarth is that they're playing a little bit too much of the viking card.
But I know that's why people enjoy them, so...
Kudos to them.
Oh shit, she's... ooh.
Careful, that' a wamon.
Oh my god.
Oh good, security is here.
Okay.
Oh, he just took a shit in the bathroom, that's why.
I like this comment.
"Who's responsible for the video? Fire this person, but the song is great as expected."
That's basically how I rate this perfect 6/10 video.
Andrew Baena... Holy shit, we have a celebrity among us.
He's an excellent youtuber, go check him out. Andrew Baena.
"Favorite video game controller of all time?"
I think my favourite controller...
I think my favourite controller is still, and will remain for a long time, the Playstation controller.
And I think...
It was the Playstation 2, right? That introduced the thumbsticks and... yeah.
It's just the best one.
Can't really argue. I like the Xbox's one as well.
I remember the first Xbox's one, it was like so big and it was super awkward.
Oh yeah, the Steam controller is kind of shit.
I have one, but it's shit basically, it doesn't make sense.
But the Playstation controller is great, for my pc I have this...
Xbox 360 controller.
And the reason why I don't use a Playstation controller with my pc it's just...
such a hassle to get it working.
But an Xbox controller, since it being Microsoft, it's just a plug and play basically.
So there you go. Andrew Baena, what's up?
Spapp Spappe: "Hej Ola, love your album. Solar pt1 is amazing.
"Feels very solemn/melacholic..."
Me- Melachol- Melancholic.
"which is great, love it to death.
"Ever listened to VIldhjiarta and/or Humanity..."
Humanity's Last Breath
"And what are your thoughts on 'thall' in general?" Okay.
Vildhjarta, I listened to them
They make some cryptic-ass music, which I think is good.
I'm not a super fan of the genre, but it sounds good.
Humanit- Humanity's Last Breath... I know the guy.
They opened up for The Haunted
I asked them personally to open up for The Haunted in a gig in Gothenburg.
I think they sound absolutely kickass
It's more of this modern core thing that...
Stomping co- what do you call it? I don't know what they call it. It's just like really stomping metal.
Which I think is super awesome.
And great producer as well, so if you haven't checked out Humanit-
Go check them out right now, they're excellent.
And my thoughts on 'thall'...
And now, because I'm trying to explain 'thall'...
People are gonna go into this video and just write 'thall' in the comments and it's gonna be super funny
So funny.
No, I think I'm a little too old for this 'thall' thing happening, so yeah.
Can't really say that... Ola being too old, that's just how it is.
Sorry, I don't get it.
Marty Robinson: "Hi Ola, will you name my album please?
"It's a Swedish-influenced death metal played by an Irishman (one-man-band).
"Something cool/epic/mythical/horrific in Swedish would be awesome.
"The band is called Fleshwolf."
Swedish word of the day.
Okay, so this segment has just been switched up and upgraded
to Swedish Ikea word of the day.
I think a lot of you people out there are probably while you're walking around in Ikea, like...
What the fuck does that mean? Why is this... piece of furniture called 'Billy'?
Or why is this called 'Asshole'?
So, this is a new segment, so I don't have to come up with Swedish words.
It's called Swedish Ikea word of the day, great.
And a good name for your band, Mr. Marty Robinson...
is today's Ikea word Bittergurka.
Bittergurka, which basically translates as 'bitter cucumber'.
And it's a... what is it?
There's 3 things, it's a water kettle.
Swedish word of the day.
Ducaines1: "Just followed on Spotify.
"You didn't have a followed count yet. Because of this, I'm claiming to be the first, you're welcome.
Thank you so much.
You know, last week I actually didn't have any listeners on my Spotify
basically because I haven't had any music on Spotify under my name, only under Feared and The Haunted.
And let's see how many there is right now.
Okay so, I'm at...
3764
Can you see that?
And my album's been streamed... Oh, 37 thou-
37,000? Oh that's so much. That's so much.
If you have Spotify, please go and follow me there. Just follow my ass.
You know, I'll release songs there, it will be awesome.
Maybe I'll upload my podcast there as well, I don't know.
My 'Coffee with Ola', I haven't decided yet.
Yusuf Dervish: "Hey Ola, I was surprised that you didn't mention any Metallica in your top albums."
Okay, so I enjoy Metallica. Yes, I do, but...
That album list was more of a... what meant a lot to me when I started listening to metal
and Metallica was just not in there.
I was a late Metallica listener.
And obviously when I discovered Metallica and I started listening to them
I listened to everything they made.
And you know, I like it.
But their albums were not important to me.
And obviously a lot of their albums were important to Pantera for instance and you know...
So... I know that.
But for me personally...
Not a single Metallica album is in my top 10.
That's just how it is. It's still a kickass band, that's fine.
I just can't name all the bands in the world, okay?
Rain Sweat: "Hi Ola, sorry I don't have time to translate your videos, but I have a question for the next FAQ
"Do you ever listen to the songs you create? By car for example."
Yes, I have to listen to my songs in depth.
When I write them, when I mix it, when I produce it...
But afterwards...
I don't want to listen to anything.
Because I'm already sick and tired of my album obviously, because...
You know, guess who listened to the album the most?
My wife. Yeah.
She's probably heard it more than me.
I try to leave the album as soon as it's released
so I have a fresh feeling of how the album sounded
and then in a year or two I can go back and listen to it.
And maybe I won't hate it, you know...
That's just how it is, I think that's...
That's kind of like part of the process fo writing and recording your own album, is that you're really...
...hyped about it at first
and then you kind of grow sick and tired of it and then you hate it.
Yes.
Impala67: "Hi Ola, how to get your daughter's autograph(by ordering the album)? That's really cute."
Okay, I think it's already too late. My daughter signed a couple of albums...
When we were watching tv
but those are already being sent out, they're gonna be worth millions and millions of dollars
Millions and millions and billions and billions and billions...
Abbas Ahmed
"Hi Ola, since the album is released... if I order cd/vinyl now, will I get it signed? Important question Olah."
If you order a regular LP or CD...
No, it's not gonna be signed if you order it now. That was kind of like the preorder perk.
If you ordered early.
And... but if you buy the guitarist or ultimate edition...
You get one of these.
And you know...
I just had this picture, it's not like I have a signed picture of myself on my desk at all times.
But yeah, if you buy a guitarist edition or an ultimate edition, you get one of these signed by me.
So, something signed at least.
Jan Majura
"Impressive the variety of positive words you used to describe your 10 favourite albums.
"I feel so positive right now. Marvelous, splendid, tiptop."
If you haven't noticed already, this is Jan of Evanescence
And she's awesome, but she's stalking me a little too much.
Chill down a little, Jan. Okay?
It's a little bit creepy.
Go subscribe to Jan's channel
I think she does a lot of vlogs and lessons and shit like that, so go ahead and go there.
And go stalk her.
Oehop Anexceb
Ola Englund, cyrillic slayer. Let's do that again.
Oehop Anexceb
"Hey Ola, could you talk a little bit more about refinishing guitars?
"I'm especially interested in matte finishes.
"Why have you stopped doing it? Thanks."
Okay, so I talked about it in the latest FAQ, that I had a time
where I was really into refinishing guitars.
And... the process was that...
I started to look at a forum called 'Project Guitar'
I still think that forum is active and if you're building guitars, that's an excellent resource
to... just, you know, learn how to do shit.
So I was there and trying to kind of figure out how to finish a guitar
and I stripped some guitars, I refinished them
and it was a lot of fun, but it takes time and... yeah...
That was fun at the moment, but now I have new hobbies.
Juan Hernandez: "Hi Ola, I love your profile pic on Spotify. You look so stupid lol"
"Can you tell my husband he needs to play his guitar more? I love listening to him write his own music.
"Also, you are not bad to listen to either."
Okay.
You can tell him yourself.
The only reason why I picked this question is because your name is amazing: Amaze Bolz.
And you're a female, I like that. Good on you.
Orhan DInççahin
"Hey Ola, can you tell me about life in Sweden?
"Gonna come up there as an exchange student, and I am dying to know more about the country and shit.
"And by the way, keep up the good work."
Thank you so much.
What to say about Sweden? It's a country with people in it that...
are not necessarily that religious
they're very open minded
and very... I don't know.
People might think that a lot of Swedes are introverts and not really speaking that much, but...
We are nice, we are nice people. Just, you know, talk to us.
Use English, because Swedes like to use their English.
'Cause we know how good we are at English.
And yeah, don't really know much. Go out, have a beer...
Go out and party.
Go to some cool metal bars, I don't know.
And now someone's gonna go in there like 'Oh, rape capital of the world. Oh, political Ola. Oh, why do you-'
Ezequiel Cachi
"Hello Ola, I'm about to become a father, how do you manage time with your kids
"without losing focus on guitar playing?"
Okay. Trust me, the focus is totally gone already.
You don't have to worry about that. You're gonna lose focus.
You just have to embrace it, it's not gonna be easy.
But if you want it enough, you'll definitely find time to play guitar
even if it's in the middle of the night, if you want it enough, there's always time, you know?
Don't watch tv, don't play videogames, don't do anything
Just... you know, as soon as the kids go to bed...
Play guitar.
Set an alarm clock in the middle of the night. 3am, okay. Play guitar.
There's always time, okay?
Good luck.
Bloody The Elf
"Hi positive Ola, your new album is so far my favourite thing about 2019.
"Tell us, which benefits you more?
"Ordering the record off of your website or streaming it through itunes/spotify forever?
"Keep rockin like Dokken! Du är min hjälte."
Thank you so much.
I think the most direct way to support me is to buy a physical copy of my album.
Unless you stream my album like a million times on Spotify.
I guess that would make me a little bit of money, but...
There you go, thank you so much for the support, okay?
Cleeemoo: "Hello Ola, did you meet Delta Empire for the recording?
"I mean, did you see him without a mask?
"Or did he stay in full anonymous mode even with you?"
I sent the songs to Delta and Delta recorded them, I was not part of the process when he recorded the songs.
I had all the communications with Lars, his guy, and...
And that was the whole recording thing, and then at some point I had a chance to go meet with Delta
together with Lars.
And no, Delta did not break character.
I had a great idea to make the Coffee with Ola with Delta
and it became kind of funny I think, because he didn't say a word.
But I'm happy with the result, he did a kickass job on the album and I'm happy, so...
It's kind of nice not talking, you know?
Okay, so I'm gonna plug Delta a little bit here.
He's available for session work, if you're needing drums...
he's available, you just have to contact his... this Lars guy.
And he'll take care of you, okay? I mean, he will help you out.
So there you go, Delta Empire
Maybe I'll link it somewhere. His facebook or whatever...
ASMR
Okay.
And that was the last question, so guys...
What do you think about this microphone? Is this something I should continue with?
Or should I just keep it all together.
Anyway, thank you so much for watching my ASMR FAQ video.
It's been a pure pleasure.
And again, thank you so much for all the support regarding my solo album.
And I'm really happy with the outcome, I really hope you enjoyed the album
I hope you listened to the album, give it a chance at least.
You know, a lot of people just know me for my chugging death metal riffs and stupidness in my videos, but...
Please go check out my album, it's something different and I hope you will like it. Who knows.
So guys, thank you so much for watching this FAQ and see you...
in a couple of days, I guess.
If you're watching my other videos
Maybe you're just here for the FAQs and don't give a shit about me testing shit.
Bye.
