Communication skills are simply our ability to give and receive different kinds of information. Some examples could be ideas that you have or information that you want to share. What's happening around you. Maybe there's some support that you need or a question that you have. These tips will help you choose the best method to send your message. Let's start with tip number one. How quickly do you need a response? Texting is a great choice for a quick and non complex response. Something like "I'm on my way," "call me when you can," "the meetings been changed to this time." If your text message looks like this, you should probably consider sending either an email or a phone call. Less is always a better choice when you're texting information at work. Tip number two is to think about is this message going to get lost in translation? Ask yourself if a stranger were to read this email or to listen to this voicemail would it make sense? Is there any unnecessary information that you're sharing either verbally or written? Get to the point and provide only the necessary information that the person reading or hearing the message will need. Tip number three is the timing of your message. When you think about what the person is doing or even if they're able to respond, it will help you to determine what's the best form of communication to use. Do they need this information right now or can it wait? Remember when you hit send your question and situation turns into their answer and solution. A great filter to use when you're deciding on what form of communication to use is to think about if it's urgent probably a phone call ,a little more detail not as urgent and email, less detailed a quick fYI moment a text message. When you follow these tips it will help you to demonstrate your emotional intelligence at work and streamline your communication skills.
