Lubbock County Expo Center Committee takes next steps toward new 2022 goal
Pro Rodeo: We need to continue this tradition and we will we just had to figure a way how to and this is our temporary solution until the next one opens its doors. BRYAN 63-YEARS OF GOOD MEMORIES IN THE OLD COLISEUM. THOSE ARE OVER. AND TONIGHT.. THE A-B-C PRO RODEO HAS A NEW, TEMPORARY HOME. BRYAN GOOD EVENING EVERYBODY, I'M BRYAN MUDD. LAUREN I'M LAUREN MATTER. THE RODEO COMMITTEE HAS MADE ITS DECISION.. ABOUT WHERE THEY'LL TEMPORARILY HOLD THE RODEO UNTIL THE NEW EXPO CENTER IS UP AND RUNNING. KAMC'S 'TORI LARNED' HAS THAT ANSWER.. AND LOOKS AT THE PROGRESS ON THE EXPO CENTER. TORI THE RODEO COMMITTEE SAYS THEY PUT A LOT OF THOUGHT INTO THEIR DECISION... LOOKING AT MULTIPE PLACES.. BUT WHEN IT CAME DOWN TO IT, THEY DECIDED THE 2020 ABC PRO RODEO WILL BE HELD AT THE MALLET EVENT CENTER IN LEVELLAND. Leslie Cox, ABC Pro Rodeo chair: We hope everyone here is just as excited as we are that we are continuing. We're not going anywhere. WELL, EXCEPT TO LEVELLAND, THE HOME OF THE 2020 ABC PRO RODEO... Leslie Cox, ABC Pro Rodeo chair: We'll still have the same great 7 events and 4 shows LESLIE COX SAYS THE TEMPORARY LOCATION WILL SEAT LESS FANS, BUT FANS CAN EXPECT SOMETHING DIFFERENT NEXT YEAR. Randy Jordan, Expo Center Board Memeber: We're able to do a variety of things we weren't able to do at the coliseum BUT THE PRESSURE IS ON THE LUBBOCK COUNTY EXPO CENTER COMMITTEE, OR LCEC, TO GET THE RODEO BACK TO LUBBOCK. RANDY JORDAN WITH THE COMMITTEE SAYS COLLECTING THE HOTEL OCCUPANCY TAX AND RENTAL CAR TAX STARTING THIS MONTH IS IMPORTANT. Randy Jordan, Expo Center Board Memeber That revenue stream being vital to payment of bond, we need to know what that revunue stream is and we need to be precise in that ON MONDAY, THE BOARD MEMBERS OF THE LCEC SAT DOWN WITH THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO ORGANIZE THEIR ROLES GOING FORWARD. Randy Jordan, Expo Center Board Memeber The county owns it and the LCEC will go into agreement with the county to operate it and manage it and handle everything the design all of that. JORDAN SAYS ONCE THEY SELL THOSE BONDS... THEY'LL START LAYING THE BRICKS OF THE FUTURE EXPO CENTER. Randy Jordan, Expo Center Board Memeber We're taking baby steps right now with hopes we will be able to take some giant steps in the next few months TORI WHILE THEIR IDEAL GOAL WAS 2021.... JORDAN SAYS IT'S POSSIBLE THE DOORS MAY NOT OPEN UNTIL 2022... BUT THEY'RE WORKING HARD TO MAKE IT HAPPEN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. BRYAN IT WAS SO HOT TODAY.. THE CHICKENS WERE LAYING OMELETTES.
